Surveillance-grade local storage
A surveillance hard drive is designed specifically for security camera systems that record continuously. Unlike a normal desktop hard drive, it is built for 24/7 video recording workloads, constant writing, higher reliability, and long-term footage storage. Security cameras can record all day and night, which puts more stress on the drive than regular computer use. A surveillance-rated drive helps improve reliability, protects the recording system, and provides better long-term performance for video storage.
Why a surveillance drive, not a desktop drive?
The recommended storage for the lower-cost compact package, especially when you do not plan to expand the camera system in the future. 4TB is a good fit for a smaller camera system and helps reduce the total cost while still using a proper surveillance-rated hard drive built for 24/7 recording.
The recommended storage for the main system because it gives you more recording capacity and better room for future expansion. The 6TB option is the better choice if you may add more cameras later or want longer video retention.
